About Me

I’m Kate; an outdoor adventurer, qualified guide & certified personal trainer with a background in journalism, PR & events. I’m based in Australia and currently work in corporate communications.

In my former life, I was a corporate professional with eight years experience in journalism and five years as a public relations manager. Then one adventurous day, sitting atop Sealy Tarns and overlooking New Zealand’s Mt Cook, I decided there was more to life. I returned to Australia, quit my job the next month and commenced studies in outdoor recreation.

For more than five years I worked as a hiking guide taking adults on pack-free adventures; a team leader working with young people on camps and Duke of Edinburgh expeditions; and a group leader travelling internationally with schools. I’ve also managed program operations and logistics for a several adventure companies, including both in corporate and outdoor education.

In early 2020, I commenced studies in fitness to become a personal trainer, and for four years I have been creating programs for both one-on-one and group fitness. I’m also a certified Athletics Australia run coach, with both a Level 1 and 2 in Recreational Running qualifications.

Post the COVID pandemic, I’m now a proud weekend outdoor warrior who enjoys cycling (road and gravel), running (footpath and trails) and triathlons. And while I am back working in corporate communications as a Sponsorship and Community Engagement Manager, I’ll always be an adventurer at heart.

I’m focused on trying new things and in the short term plan to try a bunch of new trail races and dive head on into gravel bike events and bike packing explorations.

What People Say

Kate’s energy is just infectious! We had the pleasure of having her host us on a tour through the Bay of Fires in Tasmania and she looked after everything from start to finish. She was tireless, caring, inspiring and able to support the group through any challenge. All of this whilst ensuring everyone achieved what they wanted from the trip and had a wonderful time. She was even teaching people how to make dessert! She goes above and beyond and I would love to have her lead us on more Outdoor Adventures!

What an amazing guide Kate Jones is! My partner and I were so impressed with Kate’s enthusiasm and professionalism on a recent three day hike along the Border Track in the Gold Coast hinterland. She hadn’t walked the section of the track we were headed to before so she went a week prior to do a reconnaissance and with her journalism background did a comprehensive research as well – talk about above & beyond! Her knowledge of the flora and fauna of the environment was extensive but she very perceptively picked up and focused on our areas of interest rather than her own – as some guides are prone to do. Basically ‘living with’ a stranger for 3 days can be challenging but Kate is intelligent, gregarious, interesting and most importantly interested. Really easy to chat to on those long stretches but was also happy to let us enjoy the some solitude and the surroundings. Having done a lot of self guided walks in the past we were surprised by how much more we enjoyed the experience by having an expert with us. Can’t recommend Kate highly enough and we will certainly be seeking her services in the future.

Kate was our guide for a three-day Scenic Rim walk in Queensland. Having completed over 15 guided walks myself, I can comfortably say that Kate was the best guide I have encountered. Kate’s experienced knowledge of the track, flora, fauna and surrounding areas ensured it was an interesting and engaging experience. Her communication and organisational skills allowed us to have an interactive tour while at all times ensuring our health and safety was her priority. Most importantly, Kate is a friendly and caring person who loves to laugh and strives to create a memorable and fun experience for all. Having spoken to her employer directly, she is clearly well regarded and valued as an asset to the company and I have no hesitation in recommending Kate as your guide for future tours.

Kate hosted a trek for me in QLD, and I must say was an amazing guide and more importantly ensured we had a great experience. She is informative, patient and extremely passionate about her work. I recommend her services and look forward to enjoying her services again.
